4. NEW TECHNOLOGIES

HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?

Along with creating a New Hive, I have written in depth about one part of the technology that I was in charge of. This was editing. I have given a greater explanation into the editing that I did on the film and the technology used in this process of film making. Along with this I have written about some other things that we did that were important in construction such as Stop Motion.

POST PRODUCTION
The main thing that I have taken leadership over has been editing. I have used iMovie to edit which is a new technology. Within editing I have used different techniques that I haven't before. For example the 'Cutaway' editing effect. This is putting one piece of filming on top of another. This has been used in our filming where we see a phone conversation between the protagonist and her friend. As she says to her friend "the guy from the library" we see a clip of her in the library so that what she is saying links to what we are seeing. This clip has been inserted by the Cutaway editing technique. The opacity has been changed so that you can still see the girl as she is on the phone but can also see the girl in the library. This editing was important to give the effect that the girl is thinking about the boy and the first time they met. The use of low opacity also gives a dream like effect as if being with him is her perfect scenario.

Another thing that I did in editing which I had never before is a sound bridge. The voice of the protagonist on her phone call saying "I have to go, I'm going to be late" goes over from the previous location of her bedroom, to the location of her in the date scene. The use of the sound bridge seems ironic as after we hear her telling her friend she thinks she is going to be late, we see the boy arrive late. This gives the impression to the audience that he is a player and isn't bothered about being late for one of his many girls.

Another effective use of editing that I have used is stop motion animation within the film. A took multiple images on a fast shutter speed and created a short scene where it seems as if the girl is reading her book quickly. This scene shows the camera go round the girl and gives a night to day effect as we see her upright and happy to tired and in a dressing gown. Along with the sound of a clock ticking, this gives the effect that the girl is reading this book quickly to get back to the library to visit the boy she just met.

We have also used iStop Motion to create our ident. Our ident consists of Jenga blocks being built up and then being nocked back down again. Our production company is called 'Built Up Productions.' To create this we took a variety of pictures on the Hue Camera as we built up the tower. iStop Motion is new technology and was a new and creative way to create our original ident. After making the video we edited the colour and added in writing on iMovie, along with music and sound effects.
